SPECIAL SCHOOL HOLIDAY The following letter from the Wanganui Education Board has been received:— The Education Board of Wanganui, August 22, 1936. The Secretary, Children’s Garden Circle. Dear Sir, — With further reference to your letter of the 3rd inst., addressed to the chairman, I have to say that the board, at its meeting on Wednesday, considered your request regarding children being allowed time off to prepare their exhibit for the forthcoming spring show of the Children’s Garden Circle. Special thanks this week to Mrs. Priner, Miriam Luty, Mrs. J. P. C. Hammond, Mrs. Donovan, Billy Larsen, and all the members who sent in donations for our cake. LAST WEEK’S DEMONSTRATION. A very interesting demonstration was given to city members last Saturday by Mrs. Garner, the subject being floral pictures. Many members took frames home with them and it is expected that a splendid display of these will be made at our wonder show on ’ Friday and Saturday next. Mrs. H. • Smith then followed with a most interesting demonstration on miniature garden ornaments. All the orna- ■ ments were made from corks and the : children were keenly interested and a round of applause was given to i both demonstrators.

DEMONSTRATION TO-DAY. 1.30: Floral picture demonstration, Mrs. Garner. All members are asked to bring their frames, mossed ready. 2.15: Decorated vases and presentation boxes. Demonstrator, Mrs. Shanks. Members to bring vases, flowers and boxes. 3.0: Garden ornaments. Demonstrator, Mrs. H. Smith. Mrs. R. Anderson will also be present during the afternoon to give members final tuition on their dish gardens. DONATIONS TO TEA-ROOMS AND STALLS. The committee would appreciate any donations to the tea-rooms or stalls. Ring 3708 or 4133 and a car wiU call or deliver to “Chronicle” Office or Drill Hall. Thank you. DISPLAY OF TRO ITHES AND BIRTHDAY CAKE. Our Wonder Birthday Cake and Trophies for competition at our show are now on display at McGruers. NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS. Will all exhibitors help by staging their entries as early a:: possible. Entries may be staged on Thursday afternoon and evening if desired. It 1 would considerably help if all dish gardens and daffodils were sent along on Thursday. All exhibits must bear a tag showing exhibitor’s name, age and district. When entering hall go straight to place marked “inquiries.” All members exhibiting will be ■ granted a full day’s holiday from ■ school. Members must report to ' the secretary’s office at show for • free pass from school. LUPINS i There are two kinds of lupins, the -annual and the perennial sorts.
