SPRING FLOWER

SHOW AT SANDON A BRILLIANT DISPLAY There* were exceptionally good entries received for the 23rd annual bulb and flower show held at Sanson on Wednesday under the auspices of the St. Thomas’ Anglican Church. The show was in all respects an outstanuing success, the proceeds being well maintained on previous years. Much of the success of the function was due to the energetic ladies’ commit--tee and the work of the secretaries, Messrs. F. Read and A. K. Drew. The bulbs made a brilliant display and the standard of competition w r as very high. The champion bloom of the show was a Leedsii, exhibited by Mrs. T. Saunders, of Glen Oroua, being an outstanding bloom. Although Mrs. J. L. Weightman was the only competitor in the open classes her blooms were of a very high standard. In the amateur class Mrs. C. Leicester. of Rongotea, carried off the points prize and Mrs. T. Saunders was the runner-up. Mrs. A. Hope, of Sanson, proved to be the winner of the miscellaneous section, which had some very fine exhibits. The usually popular decorative section again drew a good entrv and some splendid w’ork was on displav. The points prize was won by Mrs. W. J. Croucher, with Mrs. A. Hope a close second. Entries for the vegetable section were very few. probably on acocunt of the unfavourable cnnditions that have prevailed recently. However, the class of the entries was of a high standard. The cooking section proved a favourite, being well supported, th? points prize being won by Miss P. Hope and this same competitor won the points prize for the pickle section.

Mrs. P. Gedye. of Sanson, carried off the honours in the sewing section, her work being of a high standard.
