WINTER WOOL SALE VALUES AT CHRISTCHURCH STRONG JAPANESE BUYING | Per Press Association J CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 25. Sustained and determined bidding |w as forthcoming for better wools at the oddments and crutchings sale held to-day. There was a full bench of buyers representing all the man buying points, but the Japanese buying was particularly strong. Prices were well in advance of those at the corresponding sale last year. The catalogue consisted of 1944 bales, besides the usual bags and fadges. Of the total about 325 bales were fleece, the bulk of the remainder - being crutchings. Owners of some of the better fleece and pieces had set high limits and some of the crutchings offered did not attract bids, but the passings were only 9 per cent, of the offering. The quality of lhe wool was extremely mixed as it usually is at the winter sales and there was very little super wool. Bidding on all but the lowest lines , was animated but. was particularly [good for better selections of both fine land coarse pieces. Japan Was fhe ■dominating factor and look all classes of crutchings and pieces. The best price of the sale was 15-ld paid for 7 j bales of halfbred hogget sold under! the brand Happy Valley. Five bales of similar wool under the same brand made 154 and 5 bales of reclassed reached the same price. Merino fleece made to 15d. that price being paid for 3 bales from Mendip Hills. Halfbred pieces had several sales up to 121 d jand halfbred crutchings made 10-ld. jln a number of instances crossbred crutchngs made up to 9:,‘d. Compared with the sale last year prices for good crutchings were from 2d to 2*d higher, medium crutchings were Id to 2d higher and inferior crutchings, though erratic, were also higher.
