POSTPONED MEETING

PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY. (Special to “Chronicle.”) AUCKLAND. Aug. 25. With a little more (han six inches of rain falling within 48 hours, it was obvious that the conditoins would be too bad for the Pakuranga Hunt. Club fixture at Ellerslie on Saturday and the early postponement was anticipated, the course at that time being covered with lakelets. The turf received such a thorough soaking on top of its previous soft condition that, it cannot recover a great deal for the racing to-morrow and so heavy going will be experienced. The postponement was a big disappointment to the club, for with record acceptances a very successful day's sport and totalisator turnover was expected. The betting system will be the usual 75 25 per cent, two-dividends associated with fixtures at Ellerslie. Only a few scratchings have been posted and it. is expected that few of the horses engaged will be affected by the postponement. One of the most interesting features of the final workouts last week was the brilliant effort over the schooling hurdles of Master Norval, who looks like making good at this branch of the sport. It is a big question to ask a horse to win over the battens at Ellerslie, especi-l ally in very heavy ground, when making a debut as a jumper, but the opposition to Master Norval to-morrow, outside of the improving Teddy Boy, is by no means strong and he may get in the money. Master Norval comes from a stable that has turned out good jumpers in the past few years, notably Prince Lu and Lucess. Lord Vai has been revelling in the heavy tracks in his last few gallops and as it very often happens that a course of hurdling improves a horse's speed he is going lo be one of the well-backed candidates for 'he Jellicoe Handicap. Others to have galloped very well lately are Teddy Boy, Tooley Street. Electric Flash (who is being sorted out by many good judges as possessing a royal chance of winning both cross-country events), Tybalt. Rereatu, Gay Talkie, Tradesman, Prince Acre and Solas, while among the jumpers Friendly and En | Tour have pleased. Silver Sound and Tivoli cannot start in their races to-morrow on account of the fact that their names were not registered at the time of acceptance and this automatically disqualifies them from running. This rule, brought in a little over 12 months ago. does not appear to be very widely known. Horses in form and those that are able to handle the conditions prevailing to-morrow are the following:— 11.47. Greenmount. Hunters’ Steeplechase.—Electric Flash. Indiscretion, Friendly Boy. 12.27. Harris Memorial Hack Hurdles.—Teddy Boy, Master Norval, United. 1.12. Sylvia Park Handicap.—First Division: May Song, Fleet wind, Valspear. Second Division: Sergia, Landlubber. Mainland. 1.57. Jellicoe Handicap. - Horowhenua. Con Fuoco, Scotland. 2.37. Pakuranga Hunt Cup.— Flower Bag. Irish Comet. Cynical Kid or Electric Flash. 3.17. Auckland Handicap.—Armacourl, Tutor, Queen Nona. 3.57. Ladies' Bracelet (amateur riders*.—Harbour Bridge, High Quality. Rothoon- Survanna bracket. 4.42. Dundein Handicap.—Prince Acre, Tooley Street, High Tea. In addition to the bracket in the the Bracelet indicated above, there will be numerous brackets in the Sylvia Park Handicap, as follows--• Haputale and Paso Robles, Gay Talkie and Gar Vaals. Lone Flier and Trevace, Mountain Breeze and Lady Valma, Strathire and Rollickcr, Tidewaiter and Thurwind, and Young Paddon and Tip Toes. In each instance the first ho’ 4- e mentij’ied in the bracket will contest the first divi.-ian and the second h« rse the second division. A two-yi ar-old parade is M be held after the third event, a du<.?!’• youngsters being carded for this. Following is the list of -
