WEDDING

SUTLER—LOV’EGROAT? A very charming wedding of Wanganui interest took place at St. John’s Anglican Church, Te Awamutu, on Thursday evening, August 20. The bride was Miss Neil Lovegrove, second daughter of Mr. T. H. Lovegrove, of Wanganui and the bridegroom, Dr. Edward Butler, of Oamaru, second son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Butler, of Auckland. ’ Friends had decorated the church most effectively with spring blossoms, jonquils, daffodils and iceland poppies, making a pretty setting for the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. S. Waring. Entering the church with her father, the bride made a delightful picture in an exquisitely cut gown of magnolia-tinted satin. The bodice, finished at the neck with a slight cowl effect, had sleeves falling from fine pleating at the shoulder line and, descending in heavy shirring to fall away at the wrist in a full sleeve. A plaited girdle of satin encircling the waist was finished with silver tassels. The long graceful skirt formed a square train attractively appliqued in medallions of point lace. The gown was enhanced by a lovely veil of Brussels net held to the head with a halo of delicately arranged orange blossom buds. She wore silver kid shoes and carried a beautiful bouquet of choice flowers and maidenhair fern. Mrs. J. D. Wallace attended as matron of honour and was becomingly gowned in waterlily green ring velvet with a wide panel of shirring from neck to knee, from where the skirt flowed out wide to the ground. The very full graceful sleeves were caught in at the wrist. A charming effect was given by the wearing of a halo of real flowers, of mignonette, wallflowers and jonquils, beautifully arranged, and which matched the bouquet she carried. Three small attendants, Misses Jill and Janice Muir, of Te Awamutu, and Rosemary Lovegrove, of Wanganui, nieces of the bride, were dressed in Tudor frocks, Miss Jill Muir in waterlily green ring velvet and the two smaller children, as flower girls, in a soft shade of primrose ring velvet. Little caps were | worn and cuffs and collars of stiffened gold metal lace finished their frocks. Small posies of spring flowers were carried. Dr. Lindsay Rogers, of Te Awamutu, was best man. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Te Awamutu Hotel. To receive the guests, Mrs. T. H. Lovegrove, senr., of Wanganui, was wearing a lovely frock of black georgette over taffeta. The sleeves, accordian pleated in fan shape, were caught in at the wrists. Corsage and sleeves were heavily appliqued with chiffon flowers in Oriental colourings. With it was worn a smart black laquer hat with stiffened veil. She held a bouquet of scarlet-toned flowers. Mrs. J. B. Muir, sister of the bride, was an attractive and unusual frock of embossed gold metal cloth. The halter effect across the shoulders was attached to the low decolletage bygold shoulder straps. A large posy of scarlet velvet flowers adorned the corsage at the front. Mrs. T. E. Lovegrove, junr. (Wanganui), wore a smart and well-cut gown of black satin beaute with deep decolletage back and front and heavy double shoulder straps of diamante, over this was worn an evening wrap of black ring velvet with leg-o’mut-ton sleeves and Peter Pan collar. Miss Nellie Gamman (Wanganui) chose a picture frock in navy taffetas, the bodice being low cut with wide shoulder straps and a posy of flowers pinned on the front. An accompanying jacket was close fitting, with peplum and the new Gibson girl sleeves. For going away the bride wore a smart ensemble of English woven wool in fawn tonings, trimmed with wooden buttons and the coat cravat finished with Persian lamb. Her smart hat of alpaca was in the new small style. Shoes, morocco bag and accessories were to match. A handsome beige fox fur, the gift of the bridegroom, was carried.
