TO PLAY TARANAKI

WANGANUI TEAMS CHOSEN NEXT SATURDAY’S MATCHES Next Saturday Wanganui and Taranaki will be involved in return representative engagements, the Wanganui A. team playing at New Plymouth and the B team at Wanganui. The Wanganui selectors (Messrs. A. Henwood, chairman, H. Whiting, and Alex Takarangi) have chosen the two following teams to represent Wanganui:— A Team. Full-back: K. Welsh (M). Three-quarters: A. B. Campbell (Wai), D. G. Barton (M), G. A. Bul-lock-Douglas (M). Five-eighths: R. Chase (T), D. Thompson (M). Half-back: H. Brogden (M). Back of Scrum: G. Lockett (M), capt. Middle Row: James (R), W. Firmin (M), A. Davidson (M), C. Hutchinson (M). Front Row: McGregor (M), Reynolds (M), “Wally” Thompson (T). Reserves: Dallas (R), forward; and D. Jones (M), back. Not Available: Walker (R) and Charles (T). B Team. Full-back: H. Walker (Wall. Three-quarters: L. Burgess (M), Grace (M), Ryder (Wainui). Five-eighths: Williams (R), Follas (R), Ist. Half-back: R. Hunter (M). Back of Scrum: Pye (R), capt. Middle Row: D. Derbidge (T), W. Glenn (M), Phillips (M), Moffett (M). Front Row: G. Newland (Wai), Poppe (R), L. Smith (M). Reserves: Bridge (R), forward; and McCashin (M), back. Any player not available must notify the secretary to the Wanganui Rugby Union (Mr. C. T. Young), or Mr. H. Whiting, of the selectors, immediately. The selectors thoroughly discussed the question of reserves and decided to intimate that they reserve the right to fill vacancies in either team before the A team leaves for Taranaki or the B teams plays in Wanganui, as occasion warrants. That means that the reserves chosen may not necessarily be called on to fill vacancies until the matches are in actual progress. The reason for this decision is that the teams are limited to two reserves and it is not possible to adequately select reserves to cover every position likely to become vacant. IN TARANAKI COMPETITION RESULTS. PATEA, Aug. 15. Results in the Taranaki Rugby Competitions to-day were as follow: Southern Division. Kaponga 16; Athletic 0. Okaiawa 7; Eltham 0. Hawera 6; Walmate 3.
