Wendy's Letter-Box
(Letters to be addressed “WENDY,” c o “Chronicle” Office, Box 105, Wanganui.)
HERE’S “TOREADOR,” EVERYBODY!
Dear Leader,—Many moons have waned since last I paid a visit to the Hut, but after seeing so many of the Old Brigade once more entering its ever-open door, I thought it was about time I, too, put pen to paper and played for a brief time the game of make-believe. Only in this case, as you see, it is pencil and not pen, which I am wielding; for which I trust you will forgive me. I am truly ashamed of myself for not having written to the "page" for such aeons, but each week I have read with interest the letters contributed by such talented writes as "Just Blue Danube,” “Madcap” and the rest of our merry band. It was quite like old times to see a letter from our jovial “Occident.” The shock of seeing his name at the foot of it almost proved too great for me. I, too, was sorry, “Occident,” that I missed seeing you when you paid your brief visit to Wanganui. Next time you come down you must give me due ’warning, and then I may perhaps have the pleasure of your charming company. (Did I hear you say “Don’t be sarcastice, "Toreador”?) I’m not being, really. I was surprised to see that "Orient" is with us again. An account of his travels, would I’m sure prove a welcome addition to the interest of the Hut’s page. The letter from "Rainbow Fairy” interested me very much, and I have been puzzling my brains and wondering who she is. Did you, by any chance attend the O.D.H.S. in the year 1931, “Rainbow Fairy”? I am
very curious as to your identity.' Hasn’t the weather been cold lately. I B-r-r-r; these frosty mornings make | one's teeth chatter like so many •, chastenets, don’t they, Wendy? I was ) very interested in the suggestion (I forget whose it was) that we should hold Hut concerts in the various districts. 1 am sure they would be very popular. There must be many talented Ites among your huge band, and I think it would be very nice to get together and help some worthy cause. Well, Wendy, I am quite sure you must be heartily tired of my idle chatter, and I don’t want to make too much of a nuisance of myself, or you won’t have me back to visit you again, will you? So perhaps I had better sign on the proverbial dotted line. Before going, I would like to send greetings to all Wendyihi Ites who may happen to see this, with the hope that they will join us at not too late a date in the Land of Makebelieve. And now, dear Leader, cherio for now, and regards to all lites.—From “THE TOREADOR," C.W.K., Wanganui. Good gracious, dear, but what a wonderful surprise! Yes, the many Ites of our Old Brigade who have popped in of late has been an immense joy to me. I have tried very hard to hold Wendy concerts in the various districts, but no one seems very interested. It is a pity, too, for they would be simply wonderful. Do call in again soon, won’t you?— Wendy.
