August Is Bird Month

Raetihi, Dear Wendy.—You should have been in Raetihi recently tor wc had a snowfall. It was just enough to make the world look white and beautiful. The trees especially looked so pretty. On Sunday we had a lovely day, fine and sunny, just like Spring, after our snowfall. Are you interested in birds, Wendy? I love them. All members of our household are keenly interested in them. too. The New Zealand Native Bird Protection Society regard August as "Bird Month,” a month when they appeal to us to feed the birds daily. During the months prior to August the little creatures can find sufiicient for themselves but, when this month comes along there is very little food to be found, as it is Nature’s desolate month. Then it. is our turn to think about feeding them and, Wendy, we do good work by just throwing out a lew crumbs daily. It is very interesting to watch our little friends waiting on the clothes lines each morning for their breakfast. for they soon get. to know and wail, for it. 1 wonder how many of the Ites would be kind enough to feed the birds this month, Wendy?

You know we would be very grateful if we were those tinv creatures seeking food. Do you think there is any chance of having our two-page Wendy Hui. back again? If some more of lhe Ites livened up, surely we could easily fill two pages. Wake up, you sleepy Ites! I am appealing to you to write again (this is particularly meant for Wendyihi). Y ou know “Eddie Cantor” is back in the Hui, again and wants more company. What about it? You, know, Wendy, one page a week is really a very poor effort from nearly 4000 Ites. Do you thing you have guessed who "Eddie Cantor” is, do you, "Rainbow Fairy”? Ha! Ha! You are very cold yet, but I will let. you know when you get nearer the mark. —Your affectionate "EDDIE CANTOR.”

T am sure, dear everybody, that I may assure our "Eddie Cantor” of our co-operation in assisting those Feathered Friends of ours over what may be termed the winter of their lives. How the poor little mites must wonder why there is nothing for them to eat. Now I must conclude. A hearty welcome to our fourteen new lies and all my warmest love and kisses to everyone in our cherished Land of Make-Believe. Your ever affectionate
