The Jajlhnese Federation of Woollen Weavers’Guilds petitioned the Department of Commerce to restrict imports of British woollen goods. Japanese merchants allege that, largely on account of the Australian trade controversy, there has been a sharp rise in woollen goods prices and British traders are trying to seize the opportunity to recover lost ground. It is believed that, if the market remains firm, imports of British piece goods will reach the value of £600,000, which would be double last year’s total. REFUSED ENTRY i WOOL FROM AUSTRALIA. JAPANESE CUSTOMS ACTION. Received Aug. 6, 11.50 p.m, TOKYO, Aug. 6. The Customs at Osaka, Kobe and Yokohama refused the entry of samples of the Australian new wool. The clip shipped on the Canberra Maru was consequently returned.
