ON RICCARTON TRACKS

PREPARING FOR NATIONALS YESTERDAY’S OPERATIONS PARASANG BREAKS LEG I Per Press Association] CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 6. ' Some jumpers gave extra interest in the work at Riccarton this morning. Half a dozen horses started for a round of the Grand National course, but it was a mixed display, one of them having to be destroyed after breaking his leg. Forest Glow (W. J. McDowell), High Speed (V. Langford), Nocturnus (C. G. Humphries), Cock o’ the North (M. Reilly), Parasang (N. Trillo) and Burglar (E. Deslandes), started off from the nine-furlong barrier for a round of the Grand National fences. All went well over the sod walls and the post and rails. Cock o’ the North refused at the first of the . kennels double, while Nocturnus jumped it badly, and fell at the second leg. Cock o’ the North was tried several times at the kennels double, but without success. Forest Glow and High Speed went on from Burglar and Parasang, all jumping well till they reached Cutts’ fence. The first-named three cleared it all right, but Parasang ran into the fence and stopped. Para sang had broken his near foreleg, the mishap having occurred about 20 yards before he reached the fence, probably through knuckling over, and he had to be destroyed. N. Trillo, rider of Parasang, was thrown. He was carried to the trainer’s room, but after being examined he was found to have escaped with a shaking, and he was able to walk off the course a little later. Forest Glow and High Speed pleased by their jumping displays, while the hunter Burglar also went very well. Royston (R. K. Smith) jumped once round the schooling fences.
