WOOL IMPROVEMENT
WEST COAST SOCIETY MEETS The annual meeting of the West Coast Wool Improvement Society was held on Wednesday, Mr J. R. Franklin presiding. The chairman stressed the importance of wool producers controlling the wool levy fund. A motion of appreciation of the efforts of the chairman (Mr W. J. B. Tripe) in accomplishing a great deal for the wool growers of this district was carried. It was stated that Mr Tripe’s efforts had resulted in: (1) The sale of stud rams with official Benzol test; (2) the introduction of the Wool Levy Bill against very strong opposition. The Annual Report The annual report read as follows: “The accounts for the year ended June 30, 1936, show a credit balance of £2 Is 7d. During the year we arranged, in conjunction with the Fordell branch of the Farmers’ Union, a lecture at Fordell. The lecture on the “Mechanism of Heredity,” delivered by Professor Peren, was well attended in spite of very bad weather. There was a good deal of correspondence with breeders towards the end of 1935 and as a result, members of this society purchasing stud rams were able to get, before the sales, full particulars of the fleece test of rams submitted by the leading breeders. This information, which has not hitherto been supplied by vendors has proved an advantage to purchasers.
