GENERAL NEWS At a special general meeting of the Taihape Golf Club on Tuesday evening it was decided that the proceeds of the recent Paddy’s market be equally divided between drainage of the links and the reduction of the No. 2 account. An amendment to this effect was moved by Mr. Price and carried. A notice of motion that the whole of the proceeds of the Paddy’s market be utilised for drainage was lost. Mr. T. V. Auld, president of the cinb, presided over a satisfactory attendance. At Monday’s meeting of the Taihape Rugby Union, the Rangitikei Union wrote stating that it would not be convenient for the Rangitikei juniors to play Taihape at Hunterville on Saturday, August 8, as a curtain-raiser to the senior representative match between the two unions. The Ruapehu Union wrote regretting that it could not play Taihape at Ohakune on August 29 as suggested, because of a prior engagement with Waikato. The Ruapehu Union asked the Taihape Union to fix another date. It was decided to suggest September 19. REST ROOM. A meeting of the committee that is furthering the candidature of the Town Queen in the carnival that is being held to raise funds for the establishment of a rest room in Taihape, was held last Friday when there were present Messrs. E. Loader (chair), J. D. C. Davis, L. de Lautour, Mesdames C. L. MulJany, McCullough, Miss P. Quirk and the secretary (Mr. A. R. Loader). On the motion of Mr. Davis it was decided to send a letter of thanks to the management of the Regent Theatre for the successful picture benefit held on July 16. The chairman moved that a letter . be sent to the headmaster of the Taihape District High School asking for the assistance and co-operation of the teachers in connection with t&e children’s dances at the forthcoming ball which is to be held on September 10, instead of August 20, as was originally intended. It was resolved to approach Mr. Culpitt with a view to arranging a picture benefit at the Majestic Theatre. It was reported that the Rangers had very kindly consented to hold a dance in aid of funds for the Town Queen. Mr. H. J. Bowater kindly offered to hold a social evening in the Town Hall supper rooms in aid of the funds of the Town Queen. —The offer was gratefully accepted. It was decided that the colours tor the Town Queen, be black, gold and blue. Mr. de Lautour recommended that at the next meeting each member should put forward a suggestion, as a means of raising funds. RUGBY AFFAIRS. The management committee of the Taihape Rugby Union met on Monday evening when there were present Messrs. John Quirk (chair), L. A. Hebberd, H. D. Bond, W. Pine, N. Anderson, W. O’Connor and the secretary (Mr. C. L. Mullany). Mr. L. A. Hebberd was appointed manager of the Taihape team to visit Hunterville on Saturday, August 8, to play Rangitikei. The visiting team will have luncheon at the Hunterville Hotel and dinner at the “Argyle.” The Huia Football Club w r as granted permission to visit Tokaanu next Saturday to play the Tokaanu Maoris. The secretary of the charity match committee, Mr. J. Graham wrote asking for the co-operation of the union in connection with the annual charity match for the Ormond Rose Bowl which will be played on Thursday, August 27. The union promised to assist by every means in its power. It was decided to donate £lO towards the funds of the Taihape District High School to assist school football, especially in regard to the forthcoming quadrangular primary schools’ tourney. A letter was received from the Taumarunui Union confirming the arrangements made in. regard to their visit to Taihape on August 15. It was resolved that a junior match, Hautapu v. Utiku, he played on the Taihape Domain next Saturday at 3 p.m. There will be no charge for admission. (Continued on Page 12)
