Personal
Among the New Zealanders met by Miss A. M. Blackett, librarian at the Wanganui Public Library during her recent visit to England was Mr A. W. Mitchell, formerly a member of the literary staff of the “Chronicle,” who is on the staff of the New Zealand Associated Press. Mr. A. L. Gosling, who until recently was senior victualling superintendent of the Cunard White Star Line at Southampton has been transferred on promotion to New York. Mr. Gosling is a New Zealander and was associated with the victualling arrangements of the liner Queen Mary. In a recent letter to his sister, Mrs. E. Steere, of Marton, and written from the Queen Mary while the vessel was en route from Southampton to New York, Mr. Gosling remarked that the task of bringing the great ship into commission and starting her on her way had entailed a tremendous amount of work and hard thinking. On the date of writing, July 2, the ship was making her third outward crossing and everything was proceeding smoothly.
