OBITUARY
HON SIR WILLIAM HALLJONES, M.L.C. FORMER PRIME MINISTER I Per Press Association. J WELLINGTON. June J 9. The death occurred at bis home, Buinoil Avenue, Thorndon, Wellington, to- ' day, of the Hon. Sir William HallJones, M.L.C. and former I’tenner of New Zealand and High Commissioner in London. The funeral will leave S r Paul’s l’:uCathedral at 2 p.m. on Sunday. “He is perhaps remember, d chiefly as the last surviving member of the Seddon Ministry,” said the Pr me Minister. Hon. AL J. Savage, ’ a tribute to the late Sir William Hall Jones tonight. “He was a most cue-cientious and hardworking Minister aur a thor- I oughly honest administrator, he had a reputation for fearless ex 1 ression ot his own opinions and endea-en himself to friends and political toes alike by his great honesty and una. manner and perhaps also by h'.« lighthearted philosophy of life '1 he older generation in New Zealand will, no I doubt, recall many of his achievements unknown to me, and honour him in his passing as that of an old friend as sincerely as I do.” Hon. Mark Fagan, Leader of the Legislative Council said: “On behalf of members of the Legislative t.’ounril 1 wish to express sincere and heartfelt sorrow at the passing of Sir William Hall-Jones. His public. career was characterised hr the highest sense of public duty. He never hesitated to state his opinions and never lost his sympathy for the under dog. He was a great New Zealander and the Legislative Council is the poorer for his loss.”
