Mrs T. Mitchell was a Wanganui visitor to Auckland this week. Dr. Elizabeth Gunn returned to Wanganui yesterday. Miss G. O'Meara has 'ceil visiting Auckland. Miss Jean Hamilton, of the staff of the Wanganui Hospital, is spending her leave at Waipuku. Mrs W. K. McLean, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs Hope Gibbons, Wanganui East. Miss Edna Gamman has left Wanganui to reside in Auckland for some time. * * • • Mrs Horner, of Inglewood, who has been visiting Christchurch, is at present the guest of Mrs Pemberton, Somme Parade. Mrs C. C. Morgan, of Otorohanga, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs H. C. Veitch, St. John’s Hill, has gone on to Taihape. • * * ♦ Miss Norah Elliot, Castlecliff, has left on a motor trip to Taupo and Rotorua. Mrs G. Saunders, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs T. Tyrer, Upland Crescent, Wellington, has returned to Wanganui. * * * * Mrs E. Gower and Miss Ruth Gower have returned to Lower Hutt after a brief visit to Mr and Mrs Hope Gibbons, Wanganui East. Miss Dexter returned to Wanganui on Thursday from a short visit to Hawke’s Bay. Miss Fitzgibbons, nursing advisor of the Central Council of the Plunket Society in New Zealand, is going as New Zealand representative to the exhibition in Canada. Miss Kearns will be relieving Miss Fitzgibbons in Christchurch. ♦ • * • Miss Mildred Cranston and Miss Grace Taylor, of Palmerston, who will arrive in "Wanganui to-day to attend the School of Dancing held under the auspices of the British Drama League, will be the guests of Airs T. B. Amies, St. John’s Hill, during their stay in the city. HITHER AND THITHER Dance at Wangaehu The Palais Dance Band has been engaged to play the dance programme at the Catholic dance, to be held in the Wangaehu Hall, on Thursday, June 25. A free bus will leave Martin and Vernon’s at 8 p.m., and there will also be a free bus from Marton. Lunch and Bridge Mrs W. McA. Duncan, Ruauui, who is visiting Wanganui for the races, is a guest at Foster’s Hotel. Yesterday she entertained a number of friends at luncheon at the hotel, and in the afternoon they motored to the home of Mrs R. Orton, St. John’s Hill, who hostessed a delightful bridge party. Card Afternoon The fortnightly series of card afternoons held by the Wanganui Croquet Club were continued on Thursday, when there was a good attendance of players, who spent a pleasurable afternoon. The bridge prize was won by Mrs W. J. Stone, the winner of “500” being Mrs Langton. The afternoon tea hostesses were Mesdames H. Holroyd, Johnstone, and Guy. Trinity Ladies’ Guild The Trinity Ladies’ Guild held an enjoyable social in the Trinity Church Parlour on Thursday, when there was a large attendance. The hostesses were Mrs E. Barton and Mrs H. Rowling. Songs were contributed by Mrs G. Hardy, and Mrs Whitlock gave a most interesting address on “Jean Batten and her Flight from England to Australia.” Farewell Social A most enjoyable evening was spent on Thursday, June 11, when members of All Saints’ Choir and congregation met together to bid farewell to Mr Ray Price, who has been a popular and valued member of the parish for many years. The evening opened with that ever popular pastime, community singing, which was ably conducted by Mr Ivan Foster. Mr Ford entertained the audience with a humorous recitation, which was greatly appreciated. Songs were contributed by Miss Zita Coppins and Mr H. Stokes.’ Aji amusing charade was given by Messrs T. Wickham, G. Waite, and R. McCrorie. Mr Lawrence also entertained the people with humorous sketches. Miss Marshall and Mrs Wickham spoke very highly of the work that had been Jone by Mr Price in the church, saying that his presence would be greatly missed by all.’ Mr Lawrence, who spoke on behalf of the senior choir, made eulogistic reference to the service Mr Price had rendered to the churt_-h, both as choirmaster and as a server. On behalf of the choir and servers, he presented Mr Price with an initialled travelling rug, at the same time wishing him godspeed in his new wort. From the members of the boys’ choir, Mr Price received a pearl-handled pocket knife. Air Price suitably replied, thanking all for their kindness to him, saying that he would miss greatly the warm atmosphere of All Saints. A good supper was served by the committee and the evening was brought to a close with the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” and “God Be With You Till We Meet Again.” Among those present were:—Mesdames Price, Gower, Paul, Wickham, Earles, Jackson, Cappins, Haig, Dennison, Page, Hughes, Butcher, Kendrick, Gray; Misses G.
