APPEALS UPHELD

BURGESS AND JENKINS ECHO OF PUKEKO CASE. ( Per Press Association. ) WELLINGTON, June 19. Appeals by B. Burgess, owner-trainer of the horse Pukeko, and A. Jenkins, jockey, in connection with the running of the horse Pukeko in the First Division of the Jervois Handicap at Auckland were upheld to-day by the Racing Conference judges on the following judgment:— “The judges have very carefully considered the evidence taken before the Judicial Committee of the Auckland Racing Club and before the Auckland District Committee and also the evidence tendered before them on thp appeal. The judges consider that, after giving due weight to the expert opinion of Mr. Gomer, stipendiary steward, and the stewards of the Auckland Racing Club, there is sufficient evidence from the surrounding circumstances to justify the conclusion that, while the jockey Jenkins may have erred in his judgment in riding the race, the horse cannot be said not to have been ridden on its merits in the circumstances of the race.
