Mr. Parkhill) in a broadcast address on “Australia’s Aerial Defences’’ said that at present it was difficult to obtain delivery orders for aeroplanes placed in Britain, In time of emergency the possibility of getting aircraft from Britain would be almost negligible. It was the Government’s aim, therefore, to establish the aircraft industry in Australia, and action had been taken to achieve that result in the near future. MODERN FACTORY A SYNDICATE FORMED MILLION-POUND COMPANY TO BE FLOATED Received June 18, 11.00 p.m. CANBERRA, June 18. At the invitation of the Commonwocaltih Government a syndicate has been formed to float a company with a nominal capital oi a £1,000,000 for manufacturing aircraft aero engines in Australia. The Prime Minister stated to-night that the syndicate includes the Broken Hill Proprietary, Ltd., Broken Hill Associated Smelters Ltd., and General Motors—Holdens. The factory will be equipped with the most modern plant.
