AT HASTINGS RACES
REPORT ON COLLISION 4 CHI E F fc> TIPE NDI Alt Y’S 1N QIIR Y During the running of the Winter Handicap at Hastings on Thursday a collision occurred between bunder and Contract. The following report was afterwards made by’ the chief stipendiary steward, Mr. C. Gomer:— “As the field was entering the straight Sunder, ridden by B. H. Morris, swung out suddenly and collided with Contract, ridden by S. Anderson. When, questioned, Morris stated that Bothwell, ridden by Gomm, had got on to the heels of Stitchbird and nearly fqllen, and that he swuug out suddenly to avoid him. Anderson was questioned in regard to Contract hanging in under pressure in the straight and slightly interfering with Sunder. Anderson explained that he had tried to keep his horse straight but that he was inclined to hang on, and that the occurrence was purely accidental. As Sunder had no chance at the time it would have been all right if it could have kept its place. I took no action other than to tell Anderson to be more careful in future.”
