DAVIS CUP CONTEST
ELIMINATION OF FRANCE THE SURPRISE OF THE WEEK GERMANY’S PROSPECTS BRIGHTER. Elimination of France from the European Zone of the Davis Cup series was the surprise of the week’s sporting results. Critics the world over visioned a Germany versus France zone final, with Von Cramm and Company probably enjoying the mastery over the Frenchmen which Yugoslavia established over Boussus and Destremeau. It will be interesting now to follow the fortunes of Yugoslavia against Austria, as this is the first occasion on which the former side has advanced beyond the second round. It is anticipated that Germany will hold too many guns for Ireland, and that the final of the zone contest will be waged between Germany and Austria or Yugoslavia. Gennany, at the moment, appears to be the strongest opposition Crawford. Quist and Co. will have to face. Australia’s chance to lift the cup has never been brighter.
