TAIHAPE

THE MAJESTIC “HEART’S DESIRE” Richard Tauber’s enthralling voice | bus never been heard to better advant- i age than in ‘ Heart’s Desire,” which [ will be screened at t'lie Majestic 'Theatre commencing to-m-ofow. The j biergarten set where, as “ 8; .idler,” an | Austrian singer with great local popularity, Richard Tauber holds everyone entranced by his marvellous rendering of “Vienna, City of Aly Dreams,” is said to be mo-st effective. The film promises to make Tauber supieme on the screen, as he already is on stage and concert platform. It is in the “Heuringer” that a rich English girl, cleverly played by Leonora Corbett, first meets “Steidler. ” She is in search of a tenor to sing in the new opera composed by her boy-friend (played by Carl Harbord) in London, and immediatelv she hears “Steidler” she realises that her quest is over. Steidler ks not anxious to leave the biergarten an- 1 his little sweetheart, but she overrides his objections. He is finally persuaded to go, where Steidler becomes a sensation overnight. WOOL DISPLAY. W.D.E.G. FUNCTION. The annual wool display in connection with the Taihape branch of the M.D.F.U. was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday ’afternoon. The function, which is -held with the object of encouraging the use of moie wool in more ways, was officially opened by the Mayor (Mr. L. B. H. de Laulour) who congratulated the pro moters on the success of the show and added that the results obtained were most gratifying to thc-se interested iu the production of wool. The speaker was greatly impressed with the quality and variety of the woollen, goods displayed and added that the headmaster of the Taiihape District High bchuol (Air. .1. C. Whibley) was doing his b<st to encourage the school children to take an interest in the wool work exhibition, with the result that a number of school entries had been received. He was pleased to see such a large attendance and hoped the display would prove most pppular in every way. The judge (Air. Ale Donald, of I’alinerston North) said that the exhibits in the children’s classes were very good indeed.
