Mr. George Black, has been appointed a member of the New Zealand Wool Committee in succession to Air. Wm. S. Bennett, who has resigned.
Aliss Ailsa Nicol, the New Zealand soprano, is scheduled to broadcast a recital from the 8.8. C. Empire station at Daventry at 5.20 a.m., G.AI.T. tomorrow. She is to be assisted by the Australian violincellist, Lauri Kennedy.
Air. D. W. AlcElwain, who is studying at. London University, was the guest of Air. J. Rogers, at Glasgow during the Easter holidays. Air. AlcElwain is a son of Air. and Airs. AV. R. AlcElwain, of Wanganui. Air. J. Rogers is a brother of the Alayor of Wanganui, Air. AV. J. Rogers, and is a marine engineer. *
The resignation of Aliss P. Roberts from the college staff ))as received at yesterday’s meeting of the Board of Governors of the A) anganui Girls’ College. It was stated that Aliss Roberts was formerly a pupil of the school and had joined the staff in February, 1935. The board decided to send her a letter of appreciation for her services. The resignation is to take effect from the end of the present term.
Superintendent E. Ching, who has been in charge of the Wanganui prison for the past 16 years is to retire o>n superannuation, having completed 41 years of service. Mr Ching, who in addition to his prison supervision, has avted in the position of Probation Officer for Wanganui, served m the first instance with the permanent New Zealand Artillery in Wellington, joining that fod-ce in 1895. He served with t.he military forces at Lyttelton later, and joined the prison service in that centre on Alarch 18, 1900. Two years later he was appointed to the prison staff
at Mount Eden, Aucklun.L He remained there two years ana was trans 1 ferred to War.ganui on his first promotion in 19C4, serving a» principal warder under Air IL T. N. Beasley, who was prominent in the supervision of prison labour in the establishment of Cook’s Gardens, In 1909 Mi Ching was sent to New Plymouth as principal officer and remained there until 1913 when ho was shifte’d to AVellingtou. In 1918 he was promoted to the position of Deputy-superintendent of ihe Borstal Institute at Invercargill. From there he was placed in his post at AVanganui, which he took over in February, 1920. Mr Ching has proved himself a zealous officer and has made manv friends in AVanganui. He intends to reside in the ‘city after retiring.
