OBITUARY
MR. RICHARD COCK. . ( Per Press Association. J NEW PLYMOUTH, May The death has occurred of Mr. Rich* ard Cock, aged 85, an early settler, a well-known local body member, and a former businessman. Mr. Cock was born in Taranaki and was the founder nf the bacon industry in the province. He was twice Mayor of New Plymouth and former chairman of the Harbour and Hospital Boards. He was once proprietor of the Crown Dairy Company, then the largest in the Dominion. He was the founder and director of the Sash and IDoor Timber Company, founder of the Chamber of Commerce, and. president of the trustees of the New Plymouth Savings Bank since 192 L He was chairman of tho Building Society for 20 years, and was a wellknown Freemason. Mr. Cock was a former member of the Taranaki Rifles, and took part in the Parihaka campaign. He was chairman of the Bidd Companies of New Zealand and Australia, and the Mortgage Loan and Agency Co. Mr. Cock throughout his life took a keen interest in all activities affecting the progress of the town. He is survived by his son, Mr. L. Cock, Auckland, and daughter, Mrs. C. Williams, New Plymouth.
