I With a number of horses absent on I account of the Waikato and Auckland ~ meetings, a light entry of Anapmii H j horses at I’oxtou, Tuesday's pro(l graiznir of work at the Manawalu ecup lire was a comparatively short one with >t the performances of Foxton candidates r . providing the chief interest. The s course, with a heavy sole of grass, was in very good order but the going was p slow. The flags were out ajont 24 ' feet from the rails. Happy Hunting (S. Anderson) and Balbus (W. J. McDowell), who are both engaged in the Himicangi Hack Handicap on Saturday, had Lavish (W. J. Broughton) as a companion over six furlongs. Lavish began very smartly 1 but soon gCve way to Happy Hunting who showed the way across the top j and into the straight where Lavish ' tackled him and Balbus moved up a bit r closer. Lavish finished strongly but Happy Hunting, going along very nicely, was still half a length to the ” good at the post. Balbus was a couple of lengths further back. The time for f the full distance was 1.22 1-5 and they took 1.8 3-5 for the last five furlongs. Hunting Lodge (W. J. Broughton), who is the light-weight in the Foxton C U P> galloped a mile on her own. The * pace was not on at the start but she B got to the seven furlong disc •«x 14 4 5 , secs. She was going smoothly by that 1 time and the first live furlongs were put behind in 1.10. Broughton shook ‘ her up at the bottom of the straight. * and she responded but she was not r.dden out to complete the journey in 1.52 2-5. It was not known on Tuesday morning who was to ride the mare at Fox ton. Prince Reno was galloped five fur- , longs on his own anj be hit out boldly ’ ail the way, finishing strongly. Dungarvan (W. E. Pine), who looked , in very good nick, was galloped a coai- . paratively easy six furlongs. The three t took him 42 4-5 and, quickening up n bit running to the home turj he com . pleted the full distance in 1.26 2-5. He s appears to have appreciated the easy time he has had since Easter. Dawning Light (W. J. Broughton;

was given a similar »tsk and from whn't was practically a flat-footed start sne ran to the three iu 42 and completed in 1.25 1-5. Morrath was reftricted to a coup.e of rounds strong pace work. Finnesko, who ha.‘ had some bill work, has built up a lot since last season, and he is now a nicely proportioned colt. He was out doing easy exercise and he appeared to be u bit above himself. Bodylin© (S. Anderson) and Mana watu (IV. E. Pine) were companions in a five furlong flutter and from an even start Bodyline set the pace to the straight. Once heads were turnel for home, however, Manawatu ranged up alongside and was a fraction to the good at the finish. Bodyline was doing his work easily at the* finlbh and lhe time was 1.5 2-5. Tiger Bill (B. Liddall), who is an i.ceeptor for the Hack and Hnliters’ steeples on Saturday, was given a round over the steeplechase fences, and with the pace on all the way he gave a x’ery creditable exhibition. Liddall will ride him at Foxton. The only other bout over the fences was that of Manawatu, who took the schooling hurdles with th? greatest care. W E. Pine was in the saddle. Riding Engagements.
