KING’S LEVEE
HIS MAJESTY CHEERED CROWDS LINE THE MALL. LON DON, May 2G. Wearing a field-marshal’s uniform, the King made his first State drive in the Royal coach with the Sovereign’s escort from Buckingham Palace along lhe Mall, which, was lined with cheering crowds, to St. James’ Palace, where he held a levee. Seven British Field Marshals headed by the Duke of Connaught, attended a ceremony in the State apartments -it Buckingham Palace, at which the King accepted a Field Marshal’s batjn His Majesty previously appeared for the first time in a Field Marshal’s uniform -when he drove in state to St James’ Palace this morning to attend the second levee of his reign TL? baton which the King accepted from the IDuke of Connaught, senior Field Marshal, bore an inscription which, at. His Majesty’s wish, is briefer and simpler than the form usual in the past. The inscription reads: “His Majesty King Edward VIII. Field Marshal January 21, 1936.“
