COLLIERY DISASTER
WATER BREAKS THROUGH "SEVEN MEN TRAPPED [ British Official Wireless. ] RUGBY, May 26. It is feared that seven men have been drowned in a colliery disaster in South Wales. While 20 men of the day shift were at work to-day in the Leveston pit, in Pembrokeshire, which has only recently been re-opened after several years, water broke through the roof workings, which are 600 feet deep. Thirteen of the men succeeded in lighting their way to safety. Rescue work is being feverishly pursued, but owing to the rising water the difficulties are great. One body has been recovered, but nothing has been seen or heard of six other men who were trapped. HOPE ABANDONEE. BROTHER’S HEROIC ACT. LONDON, May 26. Hope of saving the Levestou miners ha.-- been abandoned. One could have escaped but returned into the torrent in an attempt to save a younger brother.
