AVANGANUI EAST BRANCH. The usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui East W.C.T.U. was held in St. Alban’s Hall when Airs. Day presided. Devotions were led by Airs. Day. Apologies were received from Alesdames AValker, Andrew, Henderson and IDale. After the members had reaffirmed the pledge the minutes of the last, meeting were read and confirmed. A temperance fact was read by Mrs. Ogier, followed by an interesting discussion on smoking among women and children. The next meeting will be AVhite Ribbon Day, when Aliss AVallace will give an address. Peace Day is to be held in the AV.D.F.U. rooms to-mor-row, when Airs, Douglas is to be the speaker. Airs. Duxfield spoke of the people’s mandate to governments for peace among all nations, and a letter was read from Mrs. Taylor, Dominion Peace and Arbitration Superintendent, and each member asked to do her utmost to get support for the same. This mandate is independent of the League of Nations, and originated in America, and in New Zealand has been sponsored by the AVomen’s Christian Temperance Union, that has always had as a plank in its platform “AVorld Peace.’’ The time for receiving signatures has hecn extended to June 30. Congratulations on recovery from illness were tendered to Airs. Hedges and Airs. Phizacklea. After Alesdames AA’ickham and Scott had been appointed hostesses for the next meeting, the meeeting was closed by the Benediction.
