FIRST “FLYING FLEA”
REGISTRATION GRANTED [ Per Press Association. J .WELLINGTON, May 26. The first “Flying Flea” to fly in New Zealand has been granted a certificate of registration but not a certificate of airworthiness. The civil aviation branch of the Defence Department thus limits the aeroplane to ny within three miles of a licensed aerodrome as an experimental aircraft, and by a licensed pilot only. Wing-Commander T. M. Wilkes said the department has no intention of granting certificates of ariworthiness to these craf pending furhcr advice from Great Britain. In any case, it would be difficult to arrange the compulsory third party insurance policy of £5020 required in England. The machine is at Auckland. It was built bv two licensed ground engineers, Messrs. A. McGruer and R. D. Downey, of the Auckland Aero Club. The «Ach : ne bears the lettering ZM-AAB, Jp first of the ZM group.
