RISE IN EXPORTS
OVERSEAS TRADE TRENDS IMPORTS ALSO INCREASE WELLINGTON, May 26. Exports last month were higher than for some years, the total recorded valu-e, according to the returns released yesterday by the Customs Department, being £6,136,090, compared with 896,000 for April c-f last year, an increase of x 1,240,000. Last month's ligure was £728,000 greater than that for April 1934. The increase is largely accounted for by the higher price of wool, of which a much larger quantity Was shipped last month than during the correspG-nding month of previous years. Imports continue to increase, ’those for April being valued at £3,559.000, compared with £2,839,000 for April, 1935, an increase of £720,000. The increase is largely due to the higher price and greater exports of wool. Import? for the four months ended April 30 were valued at £13,180,000, compared with £11,337,000 for the corresponding period of last year, an increase nt £1,543,000.
