OBITUARY
VUI 1 JI X I MR. JOHN P. BEACHEN. MAORI WAR VETERAN. Formerly a member of Cap', tin [Cameron’s Cavalry Brigade al Wa’gn ( Inui, Mr. John Plummer Beachcn died at Waipukurau on Sunday, at the age ot c 92 years. Mr. Beachcn, who was born at Wei lington in 1843, joined Captain ’ Cameron’s Cavalry and served in the f Maori Wars, where he frequently came into contact with Major Von Tempsi.y. After his war service he returned to the Hawke’s Bay district where he engaged as a contractor in supplying sleepers for the railway line from I’akipaki onward. He purchased a farm near Ongaonga, where he resided for almost b i years.
