“Soul and Body” was the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, May 24. The Golden Text was 1 Peter 2:11, “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.” Among the citations which comprised the Lesson-Sermon were the lollowing from the Bible: “Thus slid the Lord, , the Holy One of Israel, and His Maker, ask Me of things to come concerning My sons, and concerning the work of My hands command ye Me. I have made the earth, and created man upon it. ... I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will diiect all bis ways.” (Isaiah 45:11-13.) Also the following passages irom the | Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health with Key to .he Scriptures,” by Mary Baker Eddy: “The Scriptures inform us that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Matter is not that likeness. The likeness of Spirit cannot be so unlike Spirit. Man is spiritual and perfect; and because he is spiritual and perfect, he must be so understood in Christian Science. Man is idea, ♦he image, of Love; he is not physique. Matter, o r body, is but a false concept of mortal mind. This so-called mind biiilds its own superstructure, of which the material body is the grosser portion; but from first to last, the body is 3 sensuous, human concept.” <no. 475. J 77.)
