WASHED OFF CLIFFS
MAN AND WOMAN DROWNtD ONLOOKERS ENABLE TO ASSIST [ Ter Press Association. ] Received Mav 21, 11.40 p.m. SYDNEY, May 24. A man and woman, not yet identified, were washed off the cliffs neai Bronte to-day and drowned. It believed th-e man was fishing and the woman looking on from a higher ledge. The man was engulfed by a wave. Although a strong swimmer, he tried lor half an hour to reach the rocks, watched by people on tb'C cliff-top helpless 1° aid him. Finally he waged a farewell and sank. The woman descended the rocks and apparently tried to seize the man, but she was swept into the sea.
