Card Afternoon. ’The members of the Wanganui Croquet Club held their fortnightly card afternoon last Thursday when there was a good attendance of players. The plizc for the highest score was won by Mrs. J. Bly th. The hostesses for the afternoon were Alesdames Cloustoiq Burtt and Doidge. Children’s Party. On Saturday afternoon, the committee of Gt. John’s Working Men's Uiub arranged to entertain children ol members at a screening at the Itcgent Theatre and afterwards at a party in thte dub hall, Glasgow Street. Over 200, including a number of mothers ana guardians, accepted the invitation, and a most enjoyable time was spent. At the party there was an abundance of cakes, sweets, ice creams and coi(iials. The arrangements were very ably carried out by Airs. 8. Symonds and Mrs. 0. Blythe, who experienced very busy time in attending to the wants of such a large family. N.Z. Trampers. The party of New Zealand trampers who are to visit the overseas Nouth Hostels next year, has now almost reached its complete quota. Originally it had been intended lo limit Die party to twenty. Jt has been decided to slightly extend the number, but it will be kept under thirty. Dr. Hilgondorf, the president of the New Zealand Youth Hostel Association, has signed the formal acceptance of 19 application forms, and some forms are still under consideration. Preference is being given to members of tramping chibs. The party will arrive in good time for the Coronation, and the itinerary tentatively drawn up includes tramping in Devonshire and Somerset; in spring, the Cotswolds, Stratford on Avon, the Trossachs, English lakes and North Wales, besides London for the Coronation and sight seeing in Cambridge, York and Edinburgh. Interesting Engagement. Many New Zealand people who remember Lord Waleran (formerly an A.D.C. at Government House) will be interested to hear of his cngag-cment.
