GENERAL. Air. F. Sandels was appointed county ranger and dog tax collector for the Waimarino County at the meeting of the council on Saturday. There were six applicants for the position. After 36 years of waiting a settler in the Waimarino County has now n metalled road to his house. Two requests for remission of rates were not acceded to by the Waimarino County Council on Saturday. One man said he had to leave the district owing to his health and the other had handed back his property to the Government. In a communication to the Waimarino County Council the secretary ol the Counties’ Association said that in 1876 there were 63 counties in the Dominion and there are now 125, out of which number 123 are members of the association. Raetihi had. a runaway win over Athletic at Ohakune Junction on Saturday, the final score being 28 to nil. P. Bryers was the first to score as the result of a movement started by GHaitana. The kick by Turei was unsuccessful. P. Bryers scored again and the kick was a failure. From a forward rush by the Raetihi forwards Richards went over but the kick was again not successful. After the half-time Wallace scored and J. Bryers converted, bringing the score up to Raetihi 14 to nil. R. Smith scored under the posts but J. Bryers failed with the kick. Richards again scored and Wallace added the major points, bringing the total up to 22. Wallace obtained another try but the ball hit the bar in the kick at goal. The last try was scored by J. Bryers but tic. kick by P. Bryers went wide. Mr. W. J. Brady made an efficient referee. R-.S.A. The annual meeting of the Raetihi Returned Soldiers’ Association was held in the Druids’ Hall on Saturday night, when there was a large attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet showed a small credit balance. The election of officers resulted as follows;—President, Air. F. Honoie; vice-presidents, Alessrs. W. Harnett and D. Gardner; hon. auditor, Air. F. L. Lee; secretary, Air. J. AL Heise; committee, Alessrs. F. C. Bettjeman, A. Bott, C. Chesnutt, T. Alather, G. Edwards, K. Tuatini, T. E. AlcLean, J. Bergman, R. Alosen, Al. Geraghty and A. S. Ashmore. The secretary was appointed delegate to the annual conference in Wellington of the N.Z.U.S.A. At the conclusion of the business the usual smoke concert was held and an enjoyable time was spent. TENNIS DANCE A very enjoyable dance arranged by the Raetihi Tennis Club, was held in the Druid’s Hall on Friday night. Splendid music was supplied by the Bondi Dance Band and Air. W. ACanavan made an efficient ALL-. Jno Monte Carlo foxtrot was won by Mr. and Airs. W. Guy and the one step by Aliss B. Eyes and Air. N. Keightley. A sumptuous supper was served by the committee and a pleasant function was kept going till the early hours of the morning. MOTHER'S DAY The Salvation Army and the Presbyterian Church celebrated Another’s Bay on Sunday morning and white flowers were in evidence. On Thursday a mother’s afternoon will be held in the Druids’ Hall when the various women’s organisations of the place will unite and present a programme of music, etc. WELCOAIE HOME A large number of neighbours and friends from Raetihi paid a surprise visit to Mi\ and Airs. David Scarrow at Pukekaha on Friday night. Air. Scarrow, who has taken an interest jn many organisations in the district, has lately- acquired a property at Pukekaha. He was warmly congratulated on his recent marriage and best wishes were expressed for the future success and happiness of the new settlers. A warm welcome was given Mrs. Scarrow. Alusic, games, etc., were indulged in and a very pleasant evening was the result.
