Course in Aviation for Schools of New South Wales

•SYDNEY. —The latest development in the public education system here has for its objective the establishment of a special com sc in aviation in all high schools. A complementary part of the plan is to increase greatly the efficiency and scope of the advanced instruction in aircraft design and construction at the technical colleges, and to set up a diploma course in air navigation. The Minister for Education, D. H Drummond, who is co-operating with the Federal Government with this end in view, says that it is essential that Australians should be “air-minded.” His view is that aviation is vi.al to the defence of Australia’s /.oug coastline, to the minimizing of the great distances between capital cities, and to the development of the interior. So, he says, it is of front-rank importance to provide boys with at least an introduction to the. fundamentals of aerial dynamics. This would be the purpose of the high schools’ course. Those especially adapted to the subject would then proceed to the technical college for specialised training to become an aviator, aircraft engineer, mechanic or designer. 'flic plan is that the Federal Government should subsidise courses of this kind in till States, and should assist also by lending members of the Air Force personnel to act as lecturers and instructors. 31 r. Drummond says that he considers instruction in “air-mindedness” is far preferable to instruction in motor driving.
