The Federation of Labour, the most formidable Spanish political fo-rce numbering 3,500,000, has decided to establish Soviets throughout the country with the •collaboration ot the trades unions and anarchists, indicating the early realisation of Communism. THE NEW PRESIDENT SENOR AZAINA ELECTED MADRID, May 10. Senor Azana was elected President. He was the only candidate and received 754. out of a possible of 911_ votes. IN AT LAST PERTH LEGISLATOR LABOUR MINISTER BEATEN PERTH, May 1.1. The East Perth by-election for the Legislative Assembly resulted in the defeat of the Minister of Employment, Mr. J. Kenneally, by Mr. T. Hughes (Independent) by a majority of 1404 votes. At the general election last February Mr. Hughes defeated Mr. Kenneally by 199 votes. Last January a sequestration order was secured against Mr. Hughes’ estate. In February Mr. Hughes defeated Mr. Kenneally for the East Perth seat. The question of Mr. Hughes’ eligility to sit in Parliament after having been bankrupt then arose, and Mr. Kenneally started Court proceedings. Mr. Hughes paid the money he o-wed and the Court discharged the sequestration order. When Mr. Kenneally persisted with his appeal Mr. Hughes resigned his seat and the appeal was discontinued. As a result of the new election on Saturday the Labour Government now has a majority of one.
