SOCIAL NEWS. The Waitotara school childrep gathered together ou Thursday afternoon to farewell Miss I. Couper. Miss Couper was entertained at afternoon tea, after which a presentation of a fountain pen. was made to her by Betty Warner. Tho social evenings arranged by the Waitotara Hall Committee to raise funds for new crockery are proving popular. The function ou Saturday evening was well attended by young people and a happy time was .spent playing ping-pong and dancing to music supplied by Miss Carey, Patea. Mr. and Mrs. P. Harting are visiting Auckland. Miss Cambourne, Wellington, i s visiting her sister, Mrs. M. Hartwell. Miss O. Couper is visiting Wanganui. Miss Margaret Armstrong and Mr. J. Armstrong motored to Auckland for the school holidays. Mrs. Carter, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. G. McConachy, has returned to Bulls. Miss Bruce is spending the school holidays at Wanganui. Miss Eva Parkinson, with Mr. W. Warren as passenger, who flew to Nelson and Westport last week-end, returned to Wanganui on Sunday. Mr. Holst, who has been relieving head teacher at the Waitotara School for several weeks, returned to Wanganui on Friday. Mr. W. W’arren has returned to Waitoa. FOOTBALL The Waitotara football team played Ngutuvvera, at Ngutuwcra. on Saturday. The teams were very evenly matched, W’aitotara proving a little stronger by defeating the home team by 9 —B. R. Broughton scored two tries and kicked a penalty goal for the "Waitotara team. G. Sturmey and W. Sturmev each scored a try, one of which was converted, for Ngutuwera. Mr. J. Day was referee. Ngamatapouri played Waverley B at "Waverley and the up-river team proved successful, winning by 6to 3 Mr. AV. Hurley was referee.
