SCHOOLMASTER PAREWELLED. School children and residents of the district of Manutahi gathered in the local hall, to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. D. Jillett, and little Janice Jillett, on Friday. Mr. C. Barclay, on behalf of the residents, presented the guests of hc-nour with a chiming mantlepiece clock, and a gold bangle to their daughter. On behalf of the Manutahi Golf Club, Mr. (J. Boswell, wished Mr. Jillett success, and thanked him for his interest in the newly formed club, and made him a life member. Mr. A. B- Muggeridgc, chairman of the school committee, thanked Mr. Jillett for his work for the school. Mr. K. (). Schwass endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks. Mr. J. H. Couch, on behalf of the football Club, presented Mr. Jillett with a fountain pen. Taku Kahu, on behalf of the Maoris of the district, bid farewell to Mr. Jillett, and asked Tom Para, eldest Maori boy in the school, to present Mr. Jillett with a handsome Maori mat. Mr. Jillett suitably replied. Mr. Jillett’s new appointment is at the Aramoho school. PATEA DOMAIN BOARD. Mr. E. F. Hemingway presided at the monthly meeting of the Patea IDomain Board on Friday. Also present were Misses 'X. E. Roberts, D. Roots, F. Ramsbottom, L. Austin, J. Cunning-, ham, G. Fraser, M. Fairweather (secretary). Application was received from the Carlyle Golf Club for the first right of refusal in negotiating for Domain property for the formation of golf links. It was decided that on the receipt of some concrete proposals from the club, the board would favourably consider the application. An application from Mr. W. Sidgenian for a reduction in the rent of his paddock, was held over until further correspondence was received from the Golf -Club. In reply to a request for a grant towards improvements, Air. Langstone, Minister of Lands advised that consideration would be given to the request. The Patea Croquet Club wrote complaining of storm water and asking fc-r a reduction in rent. It was decided that the portion dealing with storm water be’referred to the Borough Council, and the rent remain th? same, namely £2 2s. An application from Mr. R M. Willis for renting of a paddock, was accepted on a weekly tenancy. The chairman reported that he had made inquiries into the draining of the swamp and the only satisfactory method would be by piping, which was outside the board’s finances at present. It was decided to obtain prices fc-r labour of cleaning the drains from the swamp, Messrs. Roots, Cunningham, and the chairman to draw up conditions. The chairman reported that he had sold one of the trees blown over, for 7s (id. The caretaker reported that the flower beds bad been dug, and bulbs planted, hedges trimmed, and trees blown over cut up for posts. He asked for the ruling of the board regarding admittance of cars inside. He w'oui I like another dcei at back of grandstand for storeroom. It was decided that cars be prohibited from going inside the Domain. The meeting was then turned into an annual meeting, ami the balancesheet received showing a credit of £8 17s sd. I On Friday evening the members of ; he Pate Golf Club held a jolly evening i in their chib house, to bid adieu t? Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wither, who have ■ carried out the duties of secretaries in I a highly efficient manner for some years. With the recent innovation of a wizard lighting system, the golf house was ideal for the occasion, dancing being held in the large room, and cards in the lounge. Mr. C. R. Honcyfield paid eulogistic tributes to the guests of honour, and presented them with a handsome armchair on behalf of the members. Other speakers were Mr. E. Harris, pesiden:; •Mr. R. W. Mrs. Honeyfield, KAKARAMEA RESIDENTS ENTERTAINED Settlers from all parts of the district gathered in the Kakaramea Hall on Friday evening to bid adieu to Mr. and Mrs, Lord, who arc retiring, and will live in Hawera, and to honour Miss E. Dale and Mr. Watt, whose marriage takes place shortly. Mesdanres Morris and Hall welcomed the guests of honour, and presented Mrs. Lord and Miss Dale with daintyshoulder sprays. Mr. R. J. Watt, on behalf of the .Kakaramea residents, presented Mrs. Lord with a handsome cheque, and stated how sorry t<hey all were that Mr. Lord could not be present owing to ill-health, and wished him a speedy recovery. Mrs. Lord was always to the fore in assisting in anything for bettering the district, and was a tireless and willing helper. He asked her to accept the gift with the love, respect, and esteem cfl all present, hoping both she and Mr. Lord would enjoy their well-earned rest. Mr. p. J. Oakley, yu behalf of the Kakaramea Sports*Association, apologised for the absence of Mr. L’. Pearce, president, who was in ill-health, and spoke in glowing terms of the work done for the association, by Mr. and Mrs. Lord. He presented Mrs. Lord with a silver tea service on a silver tray.

Mrs. W. Taylor, president of the Alton W.D.F.U., eulogised Mrs. Lord's work in the district, and wishing h€r every happiness, presented her with lovely china salad bowl and servers. Mr. C. Lord returned thanks on be half of his parents, Mr. Morris, chairman of the school committee, stated that the school committee was very sorry to loose th-e services of Miss Dale He asked Mr. Hemingway, chairman of the Wanganui Education Board, to address the gathering. Mr. Hemingway apologised for Mr. F. Ramsbottom who sent good wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Lord, and Miss Dale and Mr. Watt. He said the district was fortunate in not losing Miss Dale altogether, and wished she and Mr. WatA future happiness. He presented them with a beautiful crystal cream jug and sugar basin on behalf of the school committee. Mr. Watt replied thanking all present for their good wishes, and said he and Miss Dale were looking forward to U v ing among them. I Miss G.
