M. de ChappedelainG, the French Minister of Merchant Marine, recently signed the order for the building of a new ship to take the place of L’Atlantique. The new ship will be somewhat smaller than her predecessor—about 30,000 tons—but she will be fitted with all the latest improvements and especially with very •complete safeguards against fire.
