MOTHER'S FRANTIC SEARCH

RABY VANISHES FROM PORCH. Speaking with emotion, a mother told the. story at a .London Police Court recently of her frantic search for her six-months-old baby which disappeared with its perambulator from the por.h of her house. In the, dock was James Price, aged 42, of no fixed address, on a charge of taking away the baby with intent, lo deprive the. parents of the care of it, ami of stealing the perambulator, value 30s. The mother. Mis. Florence Davis, of Paddington, related how she left oe* - baby girl in the pram in the por.h <-t her house, of frequently peeping nt her, and of finding that she had vanished. “l-'or a moment -1 felt I could sink through the ground,'’ she added. '’J was told that a man had gone with a perambulator round the corner. I rushed in that direction, but could not see anybody. Someone told a policeman and he, searched in one direction while 1 went iu another. About ten minutes later I saw a polir-cmtin with I the baby in the pram. ! When arrested Prive replied. “I thought it belonged to a lady whom 1 knew and I was going to take it lo lhe j police station. ’ ’ I Mrs. Davis said she had never seen Price, before. Price, who appeared in court wearing a khaki smock ami leather gaiteis, declared that he was well known in the district. He added, ‘‘ I though 1 wou'd wheel it round. .1 felt a bit humorous. I had had a couple of glasses of wine. 1 had no inteitno of stealing it.” He was remanded for a medical report.
