PEDESTRIANS KILLED
RUN DOWN BY CAR TWO OTHERS INJURED ' MOTORIST ARRESTED I Per Press Association. | DUNEDIN, May 10. A shocking accident, which resulted in rhe deaths of two men and severe injuries to two women, occurred at the junction of Princes .Street South and the Main South Road early on {Saturday evening, when four pedestrians were knocked down by a passing motor-car. The victims of the accident were: THOMAS JOSEPH ROGAN, 48 years, labourer, living at 19 Argyle St.. Mornington. Died of injuries. CH ARLEs'NI CO I. STE WAR T, 3 7 years, labourer, living at II Tyne Street. Roslyn. Died of injuries. CLARA KENNEDY, of 11 Grange Street, lacerated leg and head injuries. Condition serious. KATHLEEN O’CONNELL, of 311 King Edward Street, fractured left leg and head injuries. Condii tion serious. The four pedestrians had apparently just left the kerb and were walking out towards the centre of the street w'hen a motor-car which was being driven from Princes Street into the Main South Road ran :vm -down. I carrying one of the men for a distance !of a chain. Rogan suffered a fracI lured left leg and internal injuries and Stewart received a fractured wrist and 'head injuries. Stewart died in the ! Dunedin hospital at 3.50 a.m. to-day and Rognn succumbed to his injuries at, 7 a.m. The condition of the two , women, who were also admitted to the • hospital after the accident, remains i practically unchanged. | The driver of the car. who pulled up I after the impact, was arrested and will 1 he charged in the Police Court to-mor-i row morning with driving a car whilst intoxicated, and causing the deaths of ' Dogan and Stewart.
