CANZONERI WINS
BOUT WITH McLARNIN DECISION ON POINTS BKICrHT NEW YORK BOXING Received Mav 9, 7.5 p.m. NEW YORK, Al ay 8. Tony Uaiizoneri (9st. JOHb.) won on points* in a ten-round bout at Madison bquare Gardens against Jimmy McLar niu (lUsl. 31b.). The referee, Mr. Arthur Donovan, and the two judges were unanimous. According to a newspaper compilation Lanzoneri won eight of the ten rounds, ami, by the end uf the sixth, had piled up such a commanding point lead that only a knock-out by McLarnin could have altered the decision. Because of his weight advantage ami other considerations Ale Lamin was a 3-1 betting favourite when the men entered the ring. From the opening gong Lanzoneri forced the light. His efforts at first were not successful. In the first lound AicLamin cut. a gash on his nose and beat him severely to gain an early advantage. After that Canzoneri, by lighting a game and fearless battle, had things almost his own way. His clever anil well-directed biows repeatedly scored ami gradually woic down McLarnin’s resistance. The Cam'iiiiin came up smiling m the tentli round, but ho teas through. Alt that remain el was his instinct to fight. Canzoneri crashed a right to the jaw which sent McLarnin reeling and almost down. Over the remainder ot the round Canzoneri swung freely in an effort to score a knock-out, but McLarnin, although liis offensive was shattered, managed tn hold his feet. An attendance of 16,600 witnessed the bout and paid 85,000 doilni s.
