MANAWATU AND WANGANUI INTER-CLUB MATC H HOKOWHITU AND BELMONT During the week end an inter club match was played by the Wanganui and Manawatu Golf Clubs, the A teams meeting at Hokowhitu and the B teams a: Belmont. The weather at Hokov.hitu was threatening early but cleared and remained fine. The course, which was very heavy during the early part of the morning, dried quickly in the wind and was in first-rate order. Manawatu’s leading pair, Horca- • •rook and Glendinning, were matched with Goss and Haworth in the four-ball and the game was productive of much -ensational golf. They started at the eleventh and Hornabrook wa.i at the top nf his form right from the start. Glendinning came in when required and Manawatu took the first seven holes in a row. They won the ninth and weic eight up. Hornabrook’s score at tha< stage was 33, or four strokes better than scratch. The visitors were in a hopeless position but undaunted, and they -had reduced rhe deficit to 4 with four to play. Hornabrook then f linched the match with a brilliant angle 3 at Riverside <484 yards). With 15 holes played. Hornabrook’s total was 59, and as the remaining holes were short, onehe was in line for a round of better than 70. At Monro's (196 yards) his Pick wa« right out, however, for a beautiful high tee shot, hit along a I re about six feet to the left of the pin, pitched on the green and kicked over into the bunker, the hall finishing in water, lb played a bold second to S'l out ot the writer but failed with it. His thir.i was eight feet from the pm but he ./id not succeed with the putt, taking fi'e. That was not so good. He was down in par figures at th? next two holes and completed in ”1. a great effort ol the day.
