OHAKUNE

FOOTBALL. The football season opened in stormv weather with a small attendance of spectators. United defeated Ohakune by JO points to 3. From a free kick in a handy position Fleming kicked a nice goal, which was the only score for Ohakune. For United Bradshaw scored and converted his own try. From a scrum Stevens snapped up the ball and scored, which was converted, making the score 10. Several attempts were made by both sides to score, but without success. Mr. Friedlander made an afficient referee. RUGBY SUBUNION lhe fortnightly meeting of the management committee of the Ruapehu Sub-Union was held on Tuesday night, Mr. L. \ . Carmine presiding. The classification committee declined the application of the Ohakune Club for the regrading of G. Beckham from senior to junior. It was decided to take steps to organise St. John Ambulance workers fir services on the field. It was resolved to notify all clubs that they must play three men in the front row of the scrum. Messrs. Carmine and Boar were appointed a postponement committee. Mr. S. Moor was appointed delegate to the King Country Rugby Union. It was decided to remind clubs that they must provide a ball at matches. Mr. Carmine reported on the last meeting of the King Country Union. He intimated that a seven a side tournament would be held on .June 23 at Taumarunui, and a representative match, King Country v. Taranaki would be played at the same place on June 27. It was decided to advise clubs that men would not be allowed to play with hobnailed boots. Mr. Friedlander reported that he ordered off a player in the United v. Ohakune gamp. The man who was present expressed regret and apologised and was cautioned by the president. List of players must be forwarded to the secretary not later than the next meeting, which will be held on May IS. WOMEN’S DIVISION. There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Ohakune W.D.F. Union. The retiring president (Mrs. Fetzer), read the report and thanked members for their assistance during the year. The election of officebearers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs. R. O. Pearson; vice-president. Mesdames Ranger, Read and Selby; secretary, Mrs. Blacklock; assistant-secretary, Mrs. Prentice; committee, Mesdames Mountfort, Richardson. Fetzer, Marshall Foster Cranston. Coffey, McDowell, and A. K. McDougall. Mrs. Fetzer was presented with a bouquet and a small present as a token of appreciation of work and Mesdames Blacklock and A. K. MdDougall with bouquets for work done on behalf of the branch. ( Members of the Farmers Union joined in afternoon tea which was much enjoyed by all. Mr. Blacklock, president of the Farmers 7 Union, returned thanks on behalf of the members of the union. PERSONAL. Several changes have taken place in the staff of the railway station. Mr. "W. L. Hunter, of Nelson, has been transferred as relieving officer and Messrs. A. E. Higgie and Brennan from Wellington havebeen transferred as clerks, Mr. G. Funkey, from Ohakune, has been transferred to Wellington and Mr. F. Winscott to Mercer. Mr. J. Farrell hasbeen transferred to Picton and Mr. Burton replaces him at Ohakune. Mr. J. G. Hewitt, S.M. presided over the monthly sitting of the Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, in the absence of Mr. R. M. Watson, S.M., at Samoa.
