Between now and rhe end of May between 3000 and 5000 new books will be published. One London library has contracted to buy 18,000 new books during the n?xt few weeks lor distribution among its branches. More books are being read, hired, and bought now than ever. Mr. Frcre Reeves, managing director of Messrs. Heinemau’s, t'he publisher-, said.— “People who were content to read one book a week now devour books at the rate of four or five a week. “Men appear to prefer biographic and real life adventure ami t.avei stories; 290 such books have already been published this year. “Women are returning to the ohlJashioned romantic tale, but they demand twentieth centry sophistication in the treatment.”
