MOTHER’S DAY
Sir, —In the past “Mother's Day'' has been almost a sacred matter to those concerned, and as it should be. purely a personal affair. The business people, however, have this year commenced to commercialise an idea which was intended by the founder to be’ commemorated only bv a small card or a white flower worn. To the majority of mothers this commercial spirit has cheapened and vulgarised a very beautiful thought.—l am, etc., •■ANOTHER MOTHER." WANGANUI Sir, Your contributor “Jack Blunt'' emphasises the merits and potentialities of this city. H e visualises it as one would a splendid “Rolls Royce”—excellent in production and equipment, and associated with ample personal energy to prove its turn of speed. Yet he is disap|»ointed with the results. Well, the reason is that, good intentions and g<fod cquipmeiy arc not enough, if the science is wrong. I suggest that “Jack Blunt’’ has a chat with Air. Hughes, president of the IDevelopmcut League, or Mayor W. J. Rogers, or Councillor Scott and find out what’s amiss. They arc all capable, energetic men desiring to see the city regain its momentum, and they know what’s wrong, and can explain to “Jack Blunt” that it isn't always easy to get the people to understand the demands of the science.— I am, etc., “ HOPEFUL."
