MOUNT EDEN TROUBLE
INQUIRY ASKED FOR HOWARD LEAGUE APPEAL. [ Per Pre.ia Association. | AUCKLAND, May S. A resolution urging the Government to institute a dill public, inquiry into the recent trouble at Mount Eden Prison was passed at a meeting of the Howard League for Penal Reform, fol lowing a lengthy discussion. It -was recognised that the Government »ould not take immediate action as it had many matters already in hand, but the question was nevertheless regarded aone of urgency. \ copy of the resolu lion has been forwr.rded to the Hon. IL G. K ?.la?on /Attorney-General . with the added suggestion that such inquiry should be followed by an in vestigation by a competent authority into New Zealand’s penal system.
