Meteorological Office, Wellington, Thursday, May 7, 4 p.m. General Situation. —Barometers are now rising over the Dominion with the departure of the recent depression, and the advance of an intense anti-cyclone across the North Tasman Sea. A fresh depression is moving on to south-east Australia. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong southerly to south-westerly reaching gale force at times about Cook Strait, but decreasing to-mor-row and veering gradually to westerly and northerly south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rough south of Castlepoint and in the South Taranaki Bight; elsewhere moderate to rather rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate south-westerly winds veering shortly to north-westerlies in the southern portion and then freshening; seas, moderate but later rising in the southern portion. Weather.—Cold and changeable, with showers in most districts and hail on parts of the East Coast, mainly fair, however, in Westland and a general improvement setting in tu-morrow.
