LAMBS FOR EXPORT

SHORTAGE IN AUCKLAND. Cold weather and rains in the past few weeks have interfered seriously with the supply of lambs for export from the Auckland Province. It is probable that the season will be shortened considerably, as it is unlikely that many lambs will be available in the , next few months. Export buyers are finding it impossible to satisfy their requirements. Many lambs have. lost condition and are unsuitable for drafting out of flocks. In one case, where 2000 to 3000 were mustered, only about 400 lambs were in a condition to sell. The supply at present is being drawn mainly from dairy farmers, who are running small flocks. Many graziers have been advised to hold their lambs until the spring, when they can be shorn early and marketed as hoggets. On the whole, the season has been unsatisfactory. It is estimated that the total killings of lambs in the North Island will be abou 600,000 short of the normal output of 4,000,000 to 4,500,000 carcases. Export schedule prices for fat stock in the Auckland province are as follow: Lambs: 361 b. and under, S|d per lb.; 371 b to 421 b., 73d; over 421 b., 7]d; seconds, Tjd. Sheep: Wethers, 481 b. and under, sfd per lb.; 491 b. to 561 b., sd; 571 b. to 641 b., 4Ad; 651 b. to 721 b., 4 l-8d; 731 b. and over, 3|d; seconds, 4 3-Bd. Ewes, 481 b. and under, 3jd ; 481 b. to 561 b., 34d; 571b._ to 641 b., 3d; 631 b. to 721 b., 25-8 d; 731 b. and over, 2 5-Bd. Beef; Boner bulls, 14s per 1001b.* boner cows, 12s 6d.
