RACING SECRETARIES

GATHERING AT HAWERA There will be quite a gathering of racing secretaries at Hawera during the meeting which commences to-day. Lt will, however, be of an entirely .inofficial character. Miss D. E. Bray, secretary of lhe Wellington Racing Club will attend to-day in view of that club’s July meeting. She will be at Blenheim on Saturday. Mr. S. R. McCallum, secretary of the Wanganui Jockey Club, will be attending the meeting to bring the winter meeting of the local club under notice. Mr. Q. R. F. Tilley, the newly-ap-pointed secretary of the Stratford Racing Club, will be taking advantage of the opportunity to pick up some of the threads of racing The secretaries of the Napier Park, Hawke's Bay, Foxton and Otaki Clubs ai-3 also expected to attend, and the Marton Jockey Club will also be represented. CHIEF RULER HORSE THE KHEDIVE SUCCESSFUL An unusual step was taken bv Sir Joseph Robinson, who has had a* good deal of success in South Africa with New Zealand-bred horses, to acquaint Mr. C. E. Robertson, of Wright, Stephenson, and Company, Limited, who has selected the various horses for the South African owner, of the recent success of The Khedive, says a northern repo rt. Air. Robertson, who was in Auckland on Friday, was advised that a radio call was coming for him from Lngland and at 5 p.m. he was linked up with S.r Joseph Robinson in Louden. Sir Joseph expressed pleasure at his latest success with The Khedive, who ho stated had won the important Criierion Handicap in South Africa. ’l'hc Khedive is a chestnut horse by Chief Ruler from Egyptian Flower, and was bred by J. M. Cameron, of Hastings, for whom he did his early racing in New Zealand.
