VAUDEVILLE TO-NIGHT
STANLEY McKAY’S “GAIETIES” To-night at the Opera House, Wanganui, Stanley McKay’s “Gaieties” Vaudeville Co., which has just completed a record run of 40 consecutive performances at J. C. Williamson’s His Majesty’s Theatre, Auckland, is to commence a season of three nights and a gift matinee. A new revue is to be presented each day, opening with “Something New” to-night, to be followed on Friday with “Life Begins at 8,” the final production, “A Brighter 1936,” being staged on Saturday at 2.30 and 8 _ . The quality of Mr. McKay’s productions is well and favourably known in Wanganui, as he has been visiting this city at regular intervals, always bringing from Australia a first-class musical show. Heading the comedians in his 1936 offerings is j Ike Delavale, the clever English fun- I maker who was such a big favourite] here a year ago. With the exception of this artist and the Alexanders, sen- ( sational acrobats, the combination is a ( new one, formed in Sydney in Ju<ne last. The new comedians include Maggie Buckley, .the queen of syncopa- |
tion, Joe Rox. loose-legged comedian, and Geo. Corelli, who are seen with Ike in “Convicts in Clover,” “The Post Office,” and other funny sketches. Those delightful song scenes, “Remember” and “The Fashion Parade,” are interpreted by Winnie Ed* gerton, soprano, and Russell Callow, tenor, assisted by the “Gaieties” Beauty Ballet and May Brooke’s orchestra. As usual with Mr. McKay’s shows, the specialists are of an out- ' standing nature, prominent amongst them being Reno’s performing dogs, who skip, waltz and fox trot with rag doll partners, ascend ladders ns girli and descend as old ladies, play leading roles in sketches, etc.; Jerry Keogh stop and tap dancer; Patricia and Colin, thrilling adagio experts; and Elvy Ferguson, solo violinist. Beautiful dressing and elaborate staging are features of each production. No child should miss Saturday’s matinee, at which valuable presents are to be given awar, including cowboy and Ini' dian squaw suits, etc. The plans for ‘the season are at Dobbs’ Music Shop. I Intending patrons are advised that trams are to wait till conclusion of each performance, no extra being charged.
